Students at Bridge College celebrate the vibrant Holi festival through energetic Bollywood-style dance workshops.
Holi, a Hindu festival symbolising spring, love, and rejuvenation, is renowned for its colourful festivities, including dancing, singing, and the playful throwing of powdered paint and coloured water.
Known as the "festival of colours," Holi heralds the arrival of spring and bids farewell to winter, typically observed in March. In 2024, Holi commenced on Monday, March 25th.
To celebrate at Bridge College, Kalpesh, the director of K'Z Dance Entertainment LTD, journeyed from London to conduct a Holi festival-themed dance workshop for all students. In the afternoon, everyone came together to showcase the dances they had learned and engaged in the exhilarating tradition of throwing powdered paints.
Throughout the day, Kalpesh led groups of learners in dynamic dance sessions, guiding them through warm-up exercises, practising three Bollywood-style dances, and concluding with a session of meditation. He emphasised the significance of meditation and exercise and welcomed students' questions about his background, including questions about his origins in India.
The students thoroughly enjoyed their Holi celebration with Kalpesh, with many experiencing something novel, including the music. One student expressed their delight in the powdered paint activity, remarking,
"I've never done anything like this before."
From the lively dance routines to the colourful paint festivities, the students embraced every aspect of the celebration. Sarah Jenkinson from Bridge College commended Kalpesh for his professionalism, knowledge, and engaging demeanour, with both staff and students expressing a desire for his return to Bridge College annually. The day was brimming with smiles, laughter, and positivity, leaving an indelible mark of joy and gratitude, thanks to Kalpesh's remarkable efforts and the brilliant Holi festival workshop.
