A talented autistic pupil shines at Disability Gymnastics competitions
A superstar student from Inscape House School, a specialist school supporting children and young people with autism, came second in the National SEN Gymnastics virtual competitions run by Authority Sports UK.
The event took place in 2022 when Jensen came second in the U11's regional round and second in the U11's national round. Along with the national success, his floor and vault routine has sent Jensen straight to the European championships in March 2023.
Jensen is 10 years old and has been attending Inscape House School since 2019. His journey in gymnastics began two years ago thanks to his mum, Janet, who quickly noticed her son's talent and physical abilities:
"He's a very active, very able little boy, with amazing balance and coordination, which I felt would be safer used on proper equipment with trained staff."
Despite the struggle to find an after-school activity for Jensen with his complex needs, he eventually joined CC Gymnastics Poynton in Stockport, which he loves attending:
"They are really good at supporting him. His achievement in the competitions would not have been possible without their hard work with Jensen," shares his mum. About his future plans in the sport, Janet adds:
"I really hope that as he gets older, we can progress and support him further in achieving more success with his gymnastics as it's clearly something he really loves and has a talent and ability for."
The Together Trust are all proud of our student's momentous achievement, and we wish him good luck with the European championships next month.
