Move Manchester work with Bridge College students
Move Manchester dancers, Jack and Ayesha, were invited to Bridge College to share their love of dance and to teach students a routine to perform for parents and carers.
Jack and Ayesha clearly have a passion for dance and have worked with many different artists and choreographers across the UK. Although this was the first time they had worked in an SEN college, they instantly bonded with the learners. They were patient and even knew Makaton, which helped to engage everyone in the sessions. It was an absolute joy to see the confidence grow in all the learners participating and one of the students, Giorgia, even learnt a solo part.
The students enjoyed two weeks of learning how to move to different types of music, followed by four weeks of choreographing dances to showcase at a final performance. They learnt how to work as a team, to appreciate each other and to remember the dance routines. Each student participating gained a great deal from taking part in the sessions.
After six weeks of workshops, the students invited their parents/carers into college to watch a final performance. It was wonderful to see Bridge students’ families back in college and all the learners working together to help make the event a success. The performance itself went without a hitch! The audience absolutely loved the experience.
Chloe, Sports Tutor said, “It was lovely to hear parents/carers saying how amazing the dance was and how wonderful it was to see their young people enjoying themselves.”
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Claire, the Bridge College receptionist, for making these workshops possible, after running a marathon earlier this year to raise money for students to participate in a sports activity.
