A fundraising challenge helped children enjoy new sensory equipment
Haines House, one of the Together Trust’s residential services, has recently refurbished its sensory room thanks to climbing up the highest point in the Peak District last year.
In July 2021, the home’s team and one of the residents’ parents took on the strenuous challenge to complete the 10-miles-long Kinder Scout walk and raised £1,632, which allowed them to provide new sensory equipment according to the young people’s preferences.
Kevin Clarke, Residential Manager at Haines House, shared:
“The sensory room was in need of an update, so we combined the fundraising initiative with setting up a sensory garden at the side of the house, which is still ongoing. We chose to walk up Kinder Scout as one of the staff is an experienced walker, and we wanted to do something that was a bit of a challenge for the team. Staff who completed the walk felt they had achieved something, and one or two continued with walking as a new hobby. We have continued to arrange walks as part of a wellness strategy and ongoing team building.”
The renovated sensory room at the home is tailored to suit the children’s needs, featuring an array of lights, colours, sounds, music and soft play equipment that helps the young people relax, engage and stimulate their senses in a safe environment.
None of this would be possible without our fantastic supporters who contributed to the cause and helped us provide our young people with the quality of life they deserve.
