Bridge College students dance their way through Independent Women's Day
Bridge College wants a world where diversity, equity, and inclusivity are celebrated. A world where difference is valued. Independent Woman's Day is a wonderful opportunity to learn and foster an environment where together, we can forge women's equality.
All Bridge College learners took part in lots of different activities throughout the day, including a zumba class led by Hannah Payton.
Chloe, the Sports Coach, said,
“Hannah Payton, who was amazing, is the first-ever woman to be a qualified Zumba instructor who has Down syndrome. Not only did she plan and deliver the Zumba routines, but she also created a playlist that included women artists to celebrate International Women’s Day.”
Hannah, Zumber Instructor, said,
“I had a great time meeting the students and staff. Zumba is my life. My motto is "never give up".
You can find out more about Hannah on her Facebook page.
Throughout the day, students and staff left messages for women they admire on a board in the reception area. It was lovely to read all the kind words.
Students also had the opportunity to take part in a treasure hunt. Participants had to hunt around the college for pictures of inspirational women. Each picture had a letter on it, the aim being to work out what all the letters spelt. It spelt ‘girl power.’ All the answer sheets were entered into a prize draw. It was great fun!
Elizabeth, Tutor, said,
“The day was spent celebrating and learning about inspirational women. Learners thoroughly enjoyed the treasure hunt and leaving messages for women they admire. We're really pleased we had the opportunity to celebrate women's achievements and raise awareness about discrimination."
