Bridge College learners get creative with Street Style Surgery
Street Style Surgery run creative workshops that teach young people a vast array of exciting new skills. These include body popping, fashion designing, and music production to film-making.
Street Style Surgery founder Sissy Rooney is passionate about showing young people from often troubled backgrounds that creativity can open doors to a better life – and even lead to a fulfilling career.
The workshop was organised by Susan, Bridge College Print Facilitator, as part of the Bridge College Print Enterprise programme. The aim of the session was to offer learners an exciting opportunity to leave their own unique street-style graffiti mark on a t-shirt. This engaging and fun workshop encouraged creativity and self-expression and focused on learning practical graff-art techniques such as sketching, spray-painting, and stencilling.
Learners were encouraged to share their ideas, collaborate, and engage in peer-to-peer praise.
It was great to see the student's self-confidence grow as their ideas came to life. Above all, it was a whole lot of fun!
Sissy said,
“It’s been great working with the students, it’s really nice to see how proud they are when they’ve designed and made their own t-shirts”
Olaf, a student, said,
“Love my t-shirt.”
Susan, Bridge College Print Facilitator, said,
“It was a wonderful day. Sissy was a brilliant workshop leader and made sure everyone was included. Everyone that participated went home with a t-shirt they designed and a huge smile on their face. They chose their own designs and really enjoyed using the spay cans.”
