Fundamental change needs to happen
Yesterday the committee for housing, communities and local government published its report on the funding of local authorities children's social care. We were pleased to see the cross-party recommendations and acknowledgement that there must be more investment in children’s services.
The report reflects the harsh reality that local authorities face delivering children’s social care today. We support the report recommendations, which includes the investment of up to £3.1 billion into children's social care along with systematic change.
Mark Lee, our Chief executive said:
"Our social sector is at crisis point and the impact of harsh austerity measures roll on.
"The select committee quite rightly recognises that central government funding has failed to keep up with the rising demand of children and young people who need support.
"Until there is fundamental change vulnerable children will continue to be at risk."
